Juice Plus are my go to shakes because I am a VERY busy mom, and they take all the work out of making a healthy smoothie since they already have the fruit/vegetable blends mixed in!   You can drink them as is, or add your own extras (frozen fruit, healthy fats) for a heartier meal replacement or change in flavor. 

 

I have tried a lot of shakes and protein powders on the market (and there are a lot of great ones out there), but I finally landed on Juice Plus because I love their nutritional profile, and they don't taste like chalk!  I can even give them to my kids because of the clean ingredients. 

 

They are also very cost effective at less than 2$ a shake!   Less than a Starbucks Coffee! :) 

 

They are only 130 calories,  dairy free, gluten free, and are loaded with fruit and vegetable blends for 8 grams of fiber for optimal gut health. 

 

My favorite thing about these shakes is how light and refreshing they taste, but they keep me satisfied for hours.  And for all you fitness fanatics like myself, the protein to complex carb ratio is perfect to fuel up around workouts!   

My favorite recipe is mixing a packet of vanilla or chocolate with almond milk and frozen cherries.  Such an easy and delicious sweet treat!

A lot of people are going dairy free, especially when it comes to their shake or protein powder.  Besides a lot of whey protein powders being overly processed, keeping your shake dairy free has its benefits.  Always make sure your plant based shake is clean without unhealthy unnatural additives! 

Why no dairy?  The goal of changing your diet and improving your nutrition is to launch you on a journey toward better health.  Of the major food groups consumed in the standard American diet, we are finding that dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese, butter, sour cream and ice cream) are among the top five which promote inflammation. Even though a cow's milk is the best, most high fat, and protein-rich substance possible, it is to help her calves grow an average of 300 pounds in the first year of life. The proteins found in milk are specifically designed to nourish those calves in amazing ways.  Those same proteins, including whey, BSA (bovine serum albumin) and casein were never designed for the human body.  As a result, the human body produces antibodies against these cow proteins, which may in turn promote inflammation, occasionally showing up in the form of allergies, asthma and skin disorders but more often very subtly in the form of a chronic low-grade inflammation. This low-grade inflammation upsets the wonderful environment of the gut and its bacteria and impairs the liver’s ability to do its job to detoxify and cleanse.  When someone tries eliminating dairy for a week or so (replacing milk with a plant based alternative such as almond, cashew, or rice milk)  they may notice subtle health improvements such as less congestion, fewer asthma or allergy problems, and fewer skin problems.  I always tell people to listen to their body and find what works for them.  Even limiting dairy can help, so if you are drinking a shake every day, try to find one that is dairy free!
